PCWID sponsors cultural, educational, and professional programs and activities. We conduct meetings that incorporate academic mentorship and professionalization from scholars in the University of Michigan such as Dr. Jacqueline Mattis (Department of Psychology), Dr. Harley Etienne (Urban Planning), Dr. Matthew Smith and Dr. Sandra Gunning (History and DAAS). At our monthly meetings, we discuss participants’ work in progress and published scholarship on relevant topics.
We also host lectures by speakers such as cultural anthropologist Dr. Gina Ulysse, political theorist Dr. Neil Roberts, historian Dr. Kate Ramsey, and sociologist Dr. Sherri-Ann Butterfield. Lectures by UM and non-UM scholars who conduct work on Caribbean/West Indian populations and histories and who are of Caribbean/West Indian descent offer relevant mentorship to members of PCWID.
